For couples dreaming of a timeless, oceanfront wedding, One&Only Palmilla is the epitome of luxury. Side note, this was one of my first jobs, (back in 2005!) as a wedding planner in Mexico. Most wedding destinations in Mexico don´t grow flowers. San Miguel de Allende has an extended dry season and the option of local flowers is slim. Also, flowers like Bougainvillea that you see abundantly around the area are not an ideal flower to work with, unless you buy the whole plant. In other words, all of your wedding flowers will be either brought from Mexico City or from Holland, yes as in Europe.

My advice to clients is always the same, do tell me what your favorite flower is, do tell me what flower you don’t like and then let us work with the rest. Don’t´ get picky selecting flowers you know or you think will work well. Let the professional work their art, you would be surprised by the amazing results of blending different flowers and textures.

When it comes to their own wedding though, I encourage my clients to take a trip inside themselves, to be honest and to answer the right questions. What is this wedding about for you? What makes you happy? How do you want to feel? How do you want to remember it? Only after answering those questions, go and find some source of inspiration, only then go and see what colors make you feel the way you want to feel.

Once you are clear on those feelings, the path will be easy, you will select the right wedding vendors, the right team, the wedding planner that hears you and sees you. Knowing what matters to you, will clear the path of the things that are not important and decisions will flow. That is my wish to you.

The tranquility in which guests are immersed makes it the perfect canvas to color with celebrations of love and happiness.

1. Open bar, or a limited version of it. It does not matter if you decide on offering wine, beer and margaritas during cocktail time, wine for dinner and then go for the full bar during dancing, just never, ever go for the cash bar option.
2. Table assignments. You don’t have to go all the way and assign seats but definitely take the time to assign tables. This will be a time consuming task but just do it, everyone will thank you for it.
3. Amazing food. Do not take any risks with the menu; pay extra attention to the food that will be served at your wedding. Take advantage of the great options that San Miguel de Allende offers and have fun creating a menu that will excite your guests. Artists are always excited to create new things, and chefs are not the exception.
4. Great musicians. They will keep the party going, baby! Tell them about your style, your favorite bands and the music that lights you up; then let them do their homework. Be clear on what you want for dancing and what you think your guests would like; we can find moments to make everyone happy. And please, no iPod!
5. Fabulous décor. Your wedding is a celebration of love so let it show! Embellish every angle of your wedding, make it special, and make it your own. Allow yourself to be surprised, and again, let the experts do their job.

1. Study your venue thoroughly. Will you be exchanging vows on a terrace? A garden? Or a church? Do you need a draped ceremony canopy? We have seen couples that suggest a draped canopy for all the wrong reasons, and most times it’s because they don’t know their options. There are many ways to decorate you ceremony and enhance the venue you love without blocking the view. For example, if you need a formal Chuppah for your religious ceremony, don’t make it heavy or fluffy. We recommend adapting it to the venue, especially if the ceremony is in an already decorative charged venue.
2. If you have your ceremony on the grass, offer your guests complimentary heels protector. All girls will appreciate it.
3. Get a local guitar player, most of the time they’ll be willing to play covers if you want them to. Having a local flair is always a good idea.
4. If you want to throw petals on the aisle or have the aisle already decorated, go BIG or do nothing. This is the kind of touch that looks beautiful only when going all the way. A few petals on the floor would only make it look dirty, as if somebody had forgotten to clean the area.
5. Think of the main entrance and how your guests will approach the area. Decorate it and add flowers, candles, touches, or anything that can brighten up the place. It is always nice to set the mood right from the entrance and not just at the main spot.
